The 2024 survey season began in January and lasted five intense months of study and understanding of the blocks and the monument.
The season’s objectives focused on the study of the existing blocks and those discovered in 2023, the documentation of which began in the final months of 2023 and continued more jointly in 2024.
During these months, new fragments were collected from the base and pylon areas, in the area adjacent to the base of the Colossus, adding new blocks to the body and the back pillar.
Essential to this season has been the thorough study of the state of conservation and stability of the Colossus’s base and the possible reasons for its current state and the destruction of the Colossus.
In addition to studying the base and the new fragments, our greatest effort was focused on the stone puzzle and bringing the colossus’s body parts and back pillar to life.
